Terms of use

Last updated: 2026-09-25

By accessing or using privatellm.au (“the site”), you agree to these Terms of use. If you do not agree, do not use the site. Site operator: Farming Domains / Ian Piggott (ABN 66 786 225 704).

1. Who we are

This website is operated as part of the Farming Domains / Ian Piggott portfolio of independent educational sites. Contact details appear on the Contact page. Australian Business Number (ABN) appears on About, Privacy, and Terms where entity identification is appropriate — not in the site-wide footer.

Contact: Contact page (address image). Portfolio context may include other independent sites operated by the same publisher; each site has its own content and policies unless we say otherwise.

2. Licence to use the site

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and view the site for your personal or internal business information purposes. You may not scrape the site at a scale that degrades service, republish substantial portions commercially without permission, or misrepresent content as official vendor documentation.

3. Educational content — no advice

Content on privatellm.au is general educational information about private and local large language models, software tools, hardware classes, and related topics. It is written for a general audience in Australia and is not personalised advice for your business, product, security posture, employment, or legal situation.

Nothing on this site is legal, security, privacy, cybersecurity, financial, investment, tax, accounting, medical, clinical, or other professional advice. Mentions of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), Australian Privacy Principles (including APP 8 cross-border disclosure), data sovereignty, “compliance”, or industry use cases are high-level educational orientation only. They are not a gap assessment, not a certification, and not a substitute for qualified counsel, your organisation’s policies, or a security review.

We work to keep guides useful, but we do not guarantee completeness, currency, or accuracy of any model name, command, specification, price range, licence summary, or third-party feature. Always verify against official documentation and current retailer listings before you buy, deploy, or process sensitive data. If something looks outdated, treat official sources as correct.

4. No warranties

Following any guidance here does not mean software is secure, private, accurate, compliant, fit for production, fit for regulated data, or free from defects, data loss, outages, licence breach, or liability. Open-weight models, runners, drivers, quantisation behaviour, licences, retailer stock, and street prices change constantly — often without notice. Benchmarks and “VRAM / RAM floors” on this site are approximate practical guidance for learning, not warranties of performance on your machine.

The site may be unavailable, delayed, or contain errors. We may change or remove content at any time without notice.

5. Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for: verifying vendor and model documentation; testing thoroughly; choosing hardware and power/cooling safely; complying with software licences; securing your systems; and obtaining professional advice where appropriate (including legal and security advice before handling personal, health, financial, privileged, or other regulated information). You remain responsible for complying with laws that apply to you — including the Australian Consumer Law and privacy law where relevant.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

7. Third-party links, tools, and purchases

We do not control third-party websites, tools, models, cloud services, or retailers. Links are provided for convenience and education. Their terms, privacy practices, pricing, stock, and product descriptions can change. Visiting or buying from a third party is at your own risk and under their terms.

If you follow an affiliate link and buy from a retailer, your contract is with that retailer, not with us. Product availability, pricing, shipping, and warranty are their responsibility.

8. Affiliates and advertising

privatellm.au participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (including Amazon.com.au Associates) and may participate in other affiliate or partner programs from time to time. That means we may earn fees or commissions when you click certain links and complete a purchase or qualifying action, at no additional cost to you. Commission potential does not determine which educational topics we cover. Product blocks describe hardware *classes* and shopping searches — they are not independent lab tests, not “best product” awards, and not personalised purchasing advice. Always compare live prices, warranty, and seller reputation yourself. Affiliate relationships are commercial relationships under Australian Consumer Law expectations of clear disclosure; see the Affiliate disclosure page.

Display advertising (for example Google AdSense) may appear on this site only if and when the site is approved and ads are enabled. Until then, ad slots may be empty. Ad networks use their own cookies and tracking under their policies.

Details: Affiliate disclosure.

9. Intellectual property

Site text, layout, and original graphics are owned by the operator unless otherwise noted. Short quotations with clear attribution and a link back for commentary or review are welcome. Do not copy large portions for competing commercial republication without written permission.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law (including non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law), privatellm.au and its operator provide the site and content on an “as is” and “as available” basis and disclaim liability for loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the content — including any decision to buy hardware, run models, or process data.

Nothing on this site excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer guarantee, right, or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law (for example, resupply of services or payment of the cost of resupply, where that limitation is allowed).

11. Indemnity (to the extent permitted)

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify the operator against claims arising from your misuse of the site, your reliance on content without verification, or your violation of these terms — except to the extent a claim is caused by our fraud or conduct that cannot be limited under applicable law.

12. Privacy

How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy policy.

13. Children

This site is aimed at adults and organisations exploring technology topics. It is not directed at children. Do not submit personal information about children via contact channels.

14. Changes

We may update these terms by posting a new version on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms where permitted by law.

15. Governing law

These terms and the use of this site are governed by the laws of Australia (and, where relevant, the state or territory in which the operator resides), without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections that apply to you.

16. Contact
